Wanderlust: School Girls in Chennai, India

Fòcas Scotland are proud to collaborate with An Lanntair and Lensational.

Each August An Lanntair celebrates the islands’ historical links to India with Purvai, a dazzling festival of the arts. This summer Fòcas were thrilled to present Wanderlust, an exhibition of photographs made by Chennai schoolgirls with award-winning photography initiative Lensational. Fòcas explored the show with young Hebrideans. We gave them our cameras and our know-how – and they gave us some stunning images in return. Take a look here.

Thank you to Radio Scotland for giving our work in Stornoway a big shout out – you can listen here.

An Lanntair will exhibit the winners of Fòcas Scotland’s open call in 2017.

Here is a slideshow of the images we co-curated with Lensational and exhibited at An Lanntair.

”Photography has uncovered a new world for eight girls at the Government School at Perambur in Chennai. Lensational equipped them with digital cameras and photographic training to venture outside their school and record vibrant, unexpected moments in their local streets”.

Lensational are a non-profit social enterprise that aims to empower marginalised women in developing countries by equipping them with cameras and training in photography, you can visit them here.
