EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHERS IN SCOTLAND AND INDIA
Fòcas seeks submissions responding to the theme DOCUMENT
– 30 shortlisted photographers will feature in Fòcas’s digital galleries and online journal.
– 10 photographers will be selected for our ‘Open call Document’ exhibition, which will tour in multiple formats at up to 17 venues in Scotland & India in 2017. These include: Trongate 103 with Street Level Photoworks (Glasgow, Scotland) and the National Institute of Design (Gandhinagar, India).
– 6 photographers will be awarded a digital commission of £500 GBP (approx. ₹41,500 INR) each, supported by the British Council and Creative Scotland to make new work in a digital collaboration between Scotland and India. This work will be showcased in our second print exhibition and in a book publication in 2018.
Our unique programme marks the UK India Year of Culture 2017 by celebrating photography from an emerging generation of talent in India and Scotland. It includes a touring exhibition, digital commissions, public events, workshops and training opportunities for young people and emerging photographers.
We welcome submissions from emerging photographers based in Scotland or India. From street to long-term documentary, from personal to political, and from conceptual to mobile, our judges are looking for photography that makes visible compelling narratives, perspectives and experiences of the world around us.
We are all the sum, not of our roots, but of the global routes by which we arrive at who we are. (Stuart Hall) In sharing these routes we connect. Fòcas hopes that through the theme DOCUMENT you will share stories that broadly address ideas of culture, mobility, conflict, land, displacement, regeneration, family, place and home, the civic sphere and the life within.
Challenge our theme. Be inventive. Connect.
Submission deadline is: Monday April 24th 2017 at midnight EST.
